  • 1 cup milk (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 6 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Prepare three 6-inch cake tins by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the milk, sour cream, and vanilla extract; set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy. Scrape down the sides.
  5. Gradually add whisked egg whites while mixing on low speed until combined.
  6. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk mixture to the butter mixture, mixing gently until just combined.
